Smulders wins two new contracts in offshore wind energy, taking its order book to more than €1bn since the start of 2024
Eiffage, through Smulders (the Belgian subsidiary of Eiffage Métal), has won eight major contracts in the growing offshore wind energy sector since the beginning of 2024.
These contracts consolidate Smulders' position as the European leader in the turnkey steel structures market for this sector. Two new contracts have been signed, bringing Smulders' order book for 2024 to more than €1 billion.
As part of the development of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms off the coast of Poland, Equinor and Polenergia have awarded Smulders an EPC contract for the platform and jacket foundations of two electrical substations. Smulders will be responsible for the design, supply, fabrication, testing and commissioning of the two substations (excluding electrical systems). Design work has already started and will be followed by manufacturing at Smulders' production facilities in Belgium and final assembly of the platforms in the Netherlands. The two substations will be delivered between mid-2026 and mid-2027.
At the same time, a second contract was signed, also for Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3, as part of a consortium for the production of 100 transition pieces. The consortium, consisting of Smulders and Sif, will be responsible for production, procurement, testing and commissioning. Secondary steels will be produced at Smulders' facilities in Poland. Final assembly will take place at the Hoboken plant in Belgium.
Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 are two separate projects, each with an installed capacity of 720 MW, totalling more than 1.44 GW. Once delivered, they will provide green energy to more than 2 million homes.
